Great news, a remake of the first Splinter Cell game is apparently on the way, and a reveal is reportedly imminent.

Splinter Cell is one of my favorite video game series of all time, and not just because I share a name with its abrasive and sarcastic protagonist, so news of the first game getting remade has me just as excited as everyone else.

The first Splinter Cell follows Sam Fisher who's sent to Georgia to locate two missing CIA agents, before getting wrapped up in a conspiracy set to cause an international incident.

Splinter Cell has aged quite a bit, so a remake is definitely in order especially since the series has gone dark for the past few years, with Sam himself making the odd appearance in other Ubisoft games like Ghost Recon: Breakpoint and Rainbow Six Siege.

Now according to leaker Visceral, the remake is being developed by Ubisoft Toronto and will boast a variety of graphical and audio improvements to enhance the gameplay experience.

This includes raytraced reflections, which will reportedly be used by enemies to spot the player as they're sneaking around, yet another thing they'll have to be aware of if they want to get through a level unnoticed and unscathed.

Other rumours suggest the story will be changed slightly to reflect current-day conflicts and social issues.

While the remake itself hasn't been officially revealed by Ubisoft, fans are almost certain a reveal is coming on 10 June, the date of Ubisoft Forward 2024.

Hopefully the rumours turn out to be true, as the Splinter Cell series is, in my opinion, one of Ubisoft's best IPs, and deserves another chance to shine on new-gen hardware.
