This year has proven to be a pretty exciting first half for gaming. There have been some big surprises that kicked the year off with a bang, and it looks like the week of May 16 is set to bring some more titles to the forefront. From the surprising success of Helldivers 2 to larger titles, like Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League, not meeting sales expectations, the first half of 2024 has been unpredictable.

The unpredictability of the year's first quarter has been exciting to watch unfold, and as the next phase of the year comes into focus, many new games await. However, one of the most exciting release windows to look forward to is the middle of May. As of right now, the week of May 16 is stacked with some strong contenders that are all unique in their own ways, offering a fun variety to choose from.

May is filled with a lot of different titles, but the week of May 16 is a window of time that seems to be a popular target for many developers. The month opens up with Endless Ocean: Luminous and closes out with MultiVersus, but the middle of the month is what many gamers will be keeping their focus on.

May 16 Game Releases

  • Ghost of Tsushima on PC
May 16 will be a major date for gamers who have been waiting for Ghost of Tsushima to come to PC. The announcement of Ghost of Tsushima coming to PC was an exciting bit of news, and it will finally be reality in May. Ghost of Tsushima is just another of many PlayStation exclusives to get a PC port later in its life. Four years after its initial release for PlayStation, Ghost of Tsushima will get an all-new audience.

May 21 Game Releases

  • Senua's Saga: Hellblade 2
  • System Shock
Two heavy hitters will be competing against one another on May 21 with Hellblade 2 and System Shock. Although the two titles are quite different in genre, it's exciting to see such strong titles releasing on the same day. Hellblade 2's Xbox Game Pass day one release makes it one of the most anticipated releases on the subscription service this year.

When it comes to System Shock, the wait for the game's arrival on consoles will finally be over once May 21 hits. First released for PC last year, it was recently confirmed that System Shock will be coming to PS5 and Xbox Series X/S in May. The critically acclaimed remake sets out to offer a fresh audience some great sci-fi.

May 23 Game Releases

  • World of Goo 2
  • Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door
The end of the week sees a major moment for the Switch. After 15 years since the first game, World of Goo 2 makes its way into May's stacked release window. Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door will be providing a double dose of nostalgia, as the remake of the beloved 2004 Nintendo title launches on the same day.

In just one week, five major games are scheduled for release. These titles are set to arrive just in time to keep plenty of gamers entertained for the summer. Last year proved to be one of the biggest years in gaming, thanks to the number of major releases. Although this year isn't as filled to the brim with AAA titles, the week of May 16 proves that there are still plenty of awesome games to be looking forward to. Having five games to choose from is exciting enough, but the great amount of diversity between these choices offers something for many different gamers.
