Gaming South Park's Matt Stone's New Venture: Snow Day! After Their Massive South Park RPG Success

South Park has always been a cultural phenomenon, with its unique and humorously critical take on society's issues. After successful ventures into the world of RPGs with South Park: The Stick of Truth and South Park: The Fractured But Whole, co-creator Matt Stone is now taking a daring leap into the 3D realm with the new co-op game, Snow Day.

"We definitely wanted to do another video game, but we wanted to do something different," Stone shared.

The Inspiration Behind Snow Day

With Snow Day, Stone and the development team at Question aim to create a game that is more replayable and frequently updated with new characters and in-game elements. The idea was influenced by Stone's desire to have the game be dynamically updated following events or incidents in the South Park show.

"We always thought we wanted to do that thing where we do a thing in a show and then like, it's in the game two weeks later, or three weeks, or whatever it is."

Gameplay Elements and Snow Day's Theme

In Snow Day, players take on the role of New Kid, dashing through snowy parts of South Park, engaging in chaotic co-op battles, fending off enemies and gobbling up Cheesy Poofs health packs. The story revolves around a never-ending snow day in South Park, hinting at a larger force at work.

"This is more of a visceral feeling of just like being able to run around in South Park and run around in the snow."

The 3D Makeover: A New Dimension to South Park

One of the most striking aspects of Snow Day is the transition from 2D to 3D. The new 3D makeover not only gives the game a unique aesthetic but also opens up numerous gameplay possibilities. The characters and the town of South Park now have a more tangible presence, enhancing the immersive experience of the game.

"The 2D stuff - amazing as it was to make those games - it was really, really hard when you think about what you have to work with. It's just very confined, how we even made those fights work. And it's the freedom here to create, it's just a lot easier in the 3D realm," says Stone.

The Gaming Interests of The South Park Creators

Both Matt Stone and Trey Parker are avid gamers, but they have distinct gaming tastes. While Stone leans more towards button mashing and fighting games, Parker is a fan of RPGs and strategy games. Despite their differing interests, they manage to create games that cater to a diverse range of players.

"Trey [Parker] and I have totally different tastes in games. I could basically just button mash, I could just play fighting games all the time. I like strategy games a little bit."

The Future of South Park Games

With Snow Day, South Park continues to expand its gaming universe, providing fans with new and exciting experiences. The game is set to be released on March 26. And as for those looking for some tips on how to be good at the game, Stone has a simple advice:

"Definitely have different characters, some with a little more melee, some with a little more range. Don't have me on your team."

South Park's journey in the gaming industry is far from over. With the continued creativity and innovation from its creators, fans can expect more enjoyable and immersive games in the future.

The upcoming Snow Day game, with its new 3D design and gameplay elements, shows the creators' willingness to experiment and push boundaries, promising an exciting and immersive experience for South Park fans and gamers alike.
