The original Silent Hill 2 is considered to be one of the greatest video games of all time which is why anticipation of its upcoming remake has fans seriously hyped.

Following months of speculation, Konami finally announced the Silent Hill 2 remake in October 2022 and it will be developed by the studio that brought us the likes of Layers of Fear, The Medium and Blair Witch, to name a few, Bloober Team.

Check out the Silent Hill 2 trailer below!

Granted, as a big fan of the series, I was a little disappointed that Konami had skipped giving us a modern remake of the original Silent Hill that was released on PlayStation in 1999 (and no, I'm not counting Shattered Memories) but given that Silent Hill 2 is one of my favourite video games ever, I won't be complaining too much.

Variety is the spice of life, as they say, and whether we like any video game is an individual preference. However, when it comes to a classic title such as Silent Hill 2, it can spark heated discussion as fans may demand nothing short of perfection.

One of the discussions that have taken place within the Silent Hill community is the redesign of James Sunderland, the protagonist of Silent Hill 2. Obviously, technology has evolved by leaps and bounds since Silent Hill 2 was originally released in 2001 on PS2, so it makes sense that a lot will change, especially visually.

That being said, it seems that developer Bloober Team may have taken notice of community feedback and redesigned the original character model of James Sunderland in the Silent Hill 2 remake. As shared in a Reddit post, an update was initially noticed on SteamDB that updated an icon with James Sunderland's face.

Unfortunately, the link used to share the suspected redesign in Reddit is no longer active but thankfully, a comparison image was shared on Discord which compares the original James Sunderland looking in the mirror at the beginning of the game with the two versions of the remake.

This apparent redesign could mean absolutely nothing in terms of the full release and it could be a mere concept image of James Sunderland. I guess we'll know for sure when the next trailer for the Silent Hill 2 remake drops.

At the time of writing, the Silent Hill 2 remake does not have a release date but it is expected to be released on PC and PlayStation 5 this year.
