Resident Evil: Survivor on PS1 proved the versatility of Capcom's franchise, as it transformed the series into a lightgun shooter. That gameplay loop was later repurposed for the PS Move titles The Umbrella Chronicles and The Darkside Chronicles. We've also seen the series transformed into a team-based shooter, an online survival game, and much more.

But this is the first time we're seeing what Resident Evil could look like as a Streets of Rage-style beat-'em-up. This project, created by ChrisMonvel and played by Hack Games in the video embedded below, looks incredible:

"Resident Evil: Survive is a side-scrolling action horror game developed using the OpenBOR engine, based on Capcom's iconic survival horror franchise of the same name," the blurb reads. "The game draws inspiration from The Mercenaries bonus game originally introduced in Resident Evil 3: Nemesis, featuring a retro-inspired look."

This looks just like classic Capcom beat-'em-ups, such as Final Fight or Captain Commando, with its huge chunky sprites and local four-player co-op. Obviously this is a fan project – you can download a free demo through here – so it's never going to officially see the light of day, but we absolutely love the concept and would be open to an experience like this on PS5 and PS4.
