The good folks at Digital Foundry have been taking a look at Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 to celebrate its launch this week, and interestingly they've found that the Xbox Series X version is comfortably the best on console.
In their analysis, they noted that the performance mode generally outperforms the PS5 by about 10-15FPS, even though both consoles use the same settings and targets. Combined with VRR, this makes for a much smoother experience.
"As well as having a higher average frame-rate, the Xbox version also benefits from the platform's wider VRR window of 40 to 60Hz - versus 48 to 60Hz on PS5. Combined with the higher average frame-rates, you get a noticeably smoother output on VRR-compatible displays."
As a result, DF says it's "much easier" to recommend the Xbox Series X version over the PS5 when it comes to Space Marine 2's performance mode, although the quality mode is said to be "exceptionally stable" on both consoles.
The Xbox Series S version fares pretty well too, only dropping to around 26FPS at times - it's described as "quite playable". For those who are wondering, it runs at a native resolution of 720p-1080p, but then scales to 1440p.
We're willing to bet you'll have a great time with Space Marine 2 wherever you play it though.
