Back then, playing these classic RTS games on PC was as close to playing a digitalized tabletop board game as you were going to get. Don't get me wrong, there are still some great RTS games today, but the 90s and early 2000s were truly a golden era for the genre.
Check out the Age of Mythology: Retold trailer below!
The RTS genre has tried to adapt to consoles with a few exceptions being a success but in recent years, it seems the genre has turned a corner with the likes of Halo Wars 2, Two Point Hospital and Planet Coaster. Now, continuing the recent trend of console RTS adaptations, it's time for a grandmaster to return with a remake of a game that many of us have been begging for.
During the recent Xbox Games Showcase, we were treated to tons of video game announcements and gameplay reveals, one of which was Age of Mythology: Retold, a remake of the classic game PC from 2002.
To be exact, Age of Mythology: Retold was first announced in 2022, however, last weekend, not only were we treated to some new gameplay but we also learned its confirmed release date and that it will be coming to Xbox Game Pass.
"From the creators of the award-winning Age of Empires franchise, Age of Mythology: Retold goes beyond history to a mythical age where gods, monsters, and humans collide," reads the description of the remake.
"Combining the best elements of the beloved Age of Mythology with modern real-time strategy design and visuals, Retold is an epic and innovative experience for old and new players alike. Secure your domain, command legendary monsters, and call upon the power of the gods to crush your enemies."
Hopefully, Age of Mythology: Retold will play as well as it looks when it launches on PC and Xbox Series X/S on 4 September 2024. It will also launch day one on Xbox Game Pass.
