Avowed has been locked in as one of Xbox's biggest first-party games launching this fall, but that might not be happening anymore. According to The Verge (paywalled), Microsoft has decided to delay the RPG until early 2025.

Around the time of Xbox's summer showcase, developer Obsidian Entertainment seemingly slipped up when it attached a November launch date to Avowed, before swiftly removing it. Since then, the official word on its release has been Fall 2024, and we've not heard anything directly from Microsoft on this reported delay just yet.

Here's what the report says about Avowed (thanks, Klobrille):

"I understand Avowed is in good shape, this is more a matter of wanting to give the game breathing room outside of a very busy period for Xbox Game Pass."

The upcoming Xbox title will be present at Gamescom 2024, where Microsoft has announced that it will show more of the game off during a livestream on Friday, August 23rd. Hopefully, we get some clarification on the release window for Avowed during the Gamescom show.

In other Obsidian news, It's been spotted today that the Xbox-owned team appears to have started development on another brand-new project recently, although the exact nature of that one is under wraps now over at the California-based developer.
