It would be hard to believe that the first title from a small indie developer — one about civilians suffering in a war-torn city — is still going strong ten years post-launch, except that is where This War of Mine finds itself. And it makes sense: I still pick it up and play sometimes, craving its narrative and strategic gameplay. Earlier this month, developer 11 bit studios revealed that DLC titled Forget Celebrations would be launching soon, as after a decade the game's message remains as important as ever. Today, it announced that Forget Celebrations will be released in mid-December. It also announced that the original soundtrack will be released on vinyl for the first time next year.

The DLC is titled Forget Celebrations for a reason. A game's tenth anniversary is normally something to get excited about, but how can one do that when its sombre message is more important than ever? Over the years, 11 bit studios has used the game as a platform for change, donating over $1.5 million of the game's earnings to charities supporting civilians in war-torn territories. Continuing on this path, all proceeds of Forget Celebrations will go to War Child, Amnesty International, Liberty Ukraine Foundation, and Indie Games Poland.

"As the only video game that portrays the civilian experience of war with such unflinching honesty, This War of Mine remains a universal tale of struggle, survival, and hope," says Przemysław Marszał, CEO of 11 bit studios, via a press release. "Because of that, we feel a profound responsibility to act and to encourage others to help. The gaming community has proven time and again that its empathy and generosity know no bounds."

Forget Celebrations follows Katia, a seasoned war correspondent struggling to complete a book about its harsh realities. Her life gets increasingly difficult when a missile attack destroys her home. She has to regather her materials while also fighting for survival. The DLC is developed by two of the original team members. The narrative is created by Polish novelist Piotr Rogoża, with significant contributions from one of the original writers, Wojciech Setlak.

In addition to the DLC release date, 11 bit studios has announced that This War of Mine's soundtrack — composed by Piotr Musiał — will be coming to vinyl for the first time next year. It will be released in partnership with Black Screen Records. The vinyl soundtrack has an expected shipping date of April 2025 and is available to pre-order here.

Developed and published by 11 bit studios, This War of Mine is available for PC via Steam, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, and Xbox Series. The Forget Celebrations DLC will be released for PC via Steam on December 11.
