The team behind The Lord of the Rings: Return to Moria has today finally announced an Xbox release date for its Middle-Earth survival game. Originally launched on Epic and PlayStation last October before a late delay for Xbox, the title is now hitting Steam and Xbox Series X|S on August 27th.
Developer Free Range Games describes Return to Moria as "the only survival crafting video game set in the Fourth Age of Middle-earth", and it contains the ability to play "either solo or co-op online with companions".
Here's some more on what you can expect from this upcoming LOTR title:
"The Lord of the Rings: Return to Moria™ follows the Dwarves as they embark on a new adventure to reclaim their legendary home of Moria beneath the Misty Mountains. Players will join forces to survive, craft, build and explore the iconic, sprawling mines. Courageous expeditioners will need to be vigilant as mysterious dangers await.
Summoned to the Misty Mountains by Lord Gimli Lockbearer, players take control of a company of Dwarves tasked to reclaim the lost spoils from the Dwarven homeland of Moria—known as Khazad-dûm or Dwarrowdelf—in the depths below their very feet. Their quest will require fortitude, delving deep into the Mines of Moria to recover its treasures."
As part of the game's launch on new platforms, The Lord of the Rings: Return to Moria adds 'The Golden Update' into the mix, which introduces cross-play between all platforms, Sandbox Mode, and a bunch of other content, updates and improvements that have been applied since the game's initial release.
At that initial release back in 2023, the game received, shall we say, mixed reviews - so, it's probably worth tempering your expectations for some sprawling LOTR adventure with this one. Still, it sounds interesting enough, and we're glad to see more of this franchise come to Xbox.
