We're big fans of The Crew Motorfest, so we were excited to see a PS5 Pro Enhanced version announced with Sony's new console. Now that the Pro is out, we hit the familiar Hawaiian roads to check if the upgrade was worth it.

Ubisoft's racing game already looked great on the standard PS5, but it made players choose between frame rate and resolution. The Crew Motorfest offered a Fidelity mode at 4K and 30fps, and a Performance mode at 1080p and 60fps on the base PS5. The first option felt a bit jerky for a racing game, while the second lost the polish that brings Motorfest's world and cars to life.

Enter the PS5 Pro patch, which does exactly what it should: removes the need to choose. Using PSSR to upscale to 4K, The Crew Motorfest now keeps its glossy features with a smooth 60fps. This new Pro mode completely replaces the original two options. It even improves draw distances and shadow details, letting you fully appreciate the Hawaiian scenery.

On paper, this is the best way to enjoy The Crew Motorfest, but does it really matter when you're zooming through cities and countryside at 150 mph? We actually found the upgrade quite noticeable, as the fuzzy 1080p had been a pet peeve of ours whenever we played the game before the PS5 Pro.

The mix of high-quality graphics with vivid colors (especially on an OLED screen) is truly impressive, and the light reflections on the cars (though not ray-traced) really satisfy that shiny car craving. Of course, topping it all off with a silky-smooth high frame rate makes Motorfest's playlists perfect for a quick half-hour gaming session.

Our only warning is that if you're sitting more than a few feet from your screen or monitor, or if you have a mid-range TV, you might miss most of these upgrades. Motorfest's bright color scheme and fast-paced action do a lot of the visual heavy lifting, so it's easy to overlook the finer details.

That said, as regular players of The Crew Motorfest, sitting in the ideal spot for spotting pixels, we were pretty pleased with the upgrade on display here. It's not quite the dramatic difference many might be hoping for, but for those bothered by the underwhelming 1080p on the base PS5, this is a welcome improvement. It's a straightforward upgrade that does exactly what it promises for the PS5 Pro, combining the high-quality visuals and faster performance modes for a more attractive and fluid experience.
