Goichi "Suda51" Suda, the renowned game developer and founder of Grasshopper Manufacture, recently shared an intriguing anecdote about potentially meeting the person behind the famous Wario64 X (formerly Twitter) account. This account is well-known in the gaming community for posting deals and news, and interestingly uses an inverted image of Suda51 as its profile picture.
According to Suda51, the encounter likely took place about ten years ago at E3. He recounts:
"I'm pretty sure it was actually him. Anyway, he came up to me and asked me a question about what I thought about Wario64. I told him, 'Yeah, of course I know about Wario64. Wait a second —are you him?!' and he literally ran away. So I'm pretty sure it was the actual dude."
This story adds another layer to the mystery surrounding Wario64, whose identity has been a subject of speculation in the gaming community for years. In 2013, around the time of this alleged encounter, Suda51 had publicly accused Wario64 of being a bot. The account, which now boasts over a million followers, has been a staple in the gaming community for sharing deals and news.
Interestingly, despite having no direct involvement with the account, Suda51 has inadvertently become the face of gaming deals due to Wario64 using his image as an avatar for over a decade.
Suda51 expressed hope for another chance to meet Wario64, saying, "E3 is no longer a thing, and recently there have been a lot fewer events for people in the industry to get together, but I hope to have a chance to meet him." He's curious about how it feels to have over a million followers and wants to share that information with everyone.
The identity of Wario64 remains a topic of debate among gaming enthusiasts. Some believe it's one dedicated individual, while others speculate it might be a team or even an automated system. Regardless, this recent claim by Suda51 adds an interesting chapter to the ongoing mystery of Wario64's identity.
Suda51 still isn't 100% sure he knows who's behind famed Twitter account Wario64, which made him the face of gaming deals: 'I probably met him... and he literally ran away'
Suda hopes to meet Wario64 again one day.
