As a gamer, there's not much worse than spending our hard-earned cash on a video game that we've been looking forward to that ended up being absolute trash or perhaps even heavily discounted the next day after we paid the full RRP. This is why places like the Steam store can be a blessing with loads of free games at our disposal.

So whether it's on PC, PlayStation, Xbox or Nintendo, having the chance to try before we buy can be a godsend. What's more, it's why subscription services such as PlayStation Plus and Xbox Game Pass can offer so much value, as we have access to hundreds of games at a fraction of the cost of a AAA title.
With that in mind, the PC platform Steam has a page stacked with playable demos that you can download and play for free right now. However, with so many demos to choose from, I thought I'd pick out nine games that I believe you might want to check out.
Here are nine demos for you to check out today:
