Obsolete Sony stands out as one of our top social media picks. This nostalgic account acts as a digital showcase for all things Sony, taking followers on a trip through the company's lesser-known, forgotten, and unique products over the years - both in gaming and beyond.

From rare console versions to Sony Walkmans, tape recorders, and TVs with laser disc players, the account seems to cover it all. It regularly highlights some of the most eye-catching, odd, and intriguing creations from the Japanese tech giant.

Given this background, you can likely guess our excitement when we heard that the account's owner had just announced a partnership. They're teaming up with Sandeep Rai, who created Vita Means Life (the full unofficial PS Vita history) and It Only Did Everything (the unofficial complete PS3 history). Together, they plan to launch a Kickstarter for a new coffee table book, building on their existing work.

The book, titled Sony: Year by Year, will soon be open for backing on Kickstarter. Based on the shared information, it will span from 1946 to 2024. It promises to offer deep dives into many exciting Sony products released over time and aims to trace the company's rise to prominence in electronics and gaming.

Here's how the author describes it:

"Thanks for following the Kickstarter campaign for "SONY: YEAR BY YEAR - A VISUAL JOURNEY!" This coffee-table book celebrates Sony's groundbreaking innovations and iconic products, covering over seven decades of history. It's a thorough, decade-by-decade look at the company from its modest start in 1946 to 2024, showing its climb to global leadership in electronics, entertainment, gaming, and more.
From the first portable TV to the Walkman to PlayStation, Sony has always led in innovation, and this book will take you through the major products and the company's own story."

Right now, you can follow the project on Kickstarter to be alerted when the campaign goes live. You can also follow ObsoleteSony on Instagram, BlueSky, and Twitter, to keep a tab on their activities elsewhere.
