Whenever fans can get more Resident Evil lore, it's always going to be a treat, especially when it comes to cancelled games such as the one dubbed "Resident Evil 2.5", which of course would later become the 1998 sequel that we know and love today.

While Resident Evil isn't the original survival horror game, it certainly helped to put the sub-genre on the map. However, if it wasn't for the iconic zombie horror movie director, George A. Romero, there may never have been the Resident Evil series to begin with.

Check out the George A. Romero's Resident Evil documentary trailer below.

It's a known fact that George A. Romero was going to direct a Resident Evil movie, long before the woeful adaptations from Paul W.S. Anderson and 2021's Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City. Following a 1998 live-action Resident Evil 2 trailer, horror legend George A. Romero completed a script for a full Resident Evil movie.

This adaptation would be somewhat of a departure from the original Resident Evil game from 1996 but would have some connections. The movie would feature the S.T.A.R.S team led by Albert Wesker, who in the movie would have been an ex-Gulf War veteran but still had a hidden agenda when it came to securing the Tyrant prototype hidden somewhere within the mansion tucked away in Arklay Mountains.

The S.T.A.R.S team had a familiar cast of characters with the likes of Jill Valentine, Barry Burton, Rebecca Chambers and co. However, Chris Redfield wasn't part of that team but was instead a love interest to Jill Valentine, and a Mohawk ranch owner.

What's more, Barry Burton wasn't the cheesy, ginger-bearded one-line machine that we know today. In the movie, he was going to be a childhood friend of Albert Wesker with the "heart of a teddy."

Sadly, the movie never came to be due to reported creative differences between George A. Romero and executives, and with the director passing away on 16 July 2021, his vision will likely never come to fruition.

Still, there has been a lot of mythical hype of what his Resident Evil movie could have been which is why the upcoming documentary, George A. Romero's: Resident Evil is one not to be missed by fans of the Capcom series.

Produced by Key 13 Films, directed by Brandon Salisbury and in collaboration with Residence of Evil, George A. Romero's: Resident Evil is a documentary that explores the cancelled project with insight into those close to the production as well as the thoughts of Resident Evil content creators. The documentary will even be narrated by Pablo Kuntz, the original voice of Albert Wesker.

No solid release date has been announced for George A. Romero's: Resident Evil but it is expected to be released at some point this year via the Residence of Evil's YouTube channel.
