Lionsgate, the studio behind the Saw franchise, is developing a film adaptation of the Outlast horror video game series. The project is being produced by Roy Lee, known for horror films like It, Barbarian, and Late Night with the Devil. J.T. Petty, who wrote for the Outlast games, is working on the screenplay, which should help ensure a faithful adaptation of the source material.

The Outlast games, first released in 2013, are known for their immersive atmosphere, chilling sound design, and relentless suspense. The original game follows investigative journalist Miles Upshur as he explores Mount Massive Asylum, uncovering terrifying secrets.

David Chateauneuf, co-founder and creative director at Red Barrels (the game's developer), expressed excitement about the adaptation, calling it a "nightmare come true." The film is still in early development, with no cast or director attached yet.

This adaptation joins a growing trend of horror video games being brought to the big screen, following recent successes like Five Nights at Freddy's and upcoming projects such as Until Dawn and Dead by Daylight.
