The first game in this survival horror series to be released was Resident Evil which initially launched in 1996 and cemented itself as an all-time great, and meant that Capcom had another hit on its hands alongside Mega Man and Street Fighter. From that moment on, the Resident Evil series has grown bigger and arguably better with almost every release.
In 2002, the Nintendo GameCube received a full remake of the original Resident Evil, a game that to this very day, still looks and plays wonderfully. This remake has also been remastered several times being re-released in the PlayStation 3 and Xbox One eras.
Recently, there has been a lot of talk of even more Resident Evil remakes being on the way, following the success of Resident Evil 2 (2019), Resident Evil 3 (2020) and Resident Evil 4 (2023) remakes.
It's always important to take unconfirmed rumours with a pinch of salt, but depending on which piece of speculation you choose to believe, the original Resident Evil might have a second remake, that or it's the turn of Resident Evil Code: Veronica and Resident Evil 5.
We'll just have to see what Capcom announces in the coming months but in the meantime, we can always marvel at jaw-dropping fan remakes such as the one showcased on the RE Biohazard YouTube channel. created by Team Arklay and powered by Unreal Engine 5.
The fanmade remake, which looks to be inspired by the official 2002 remake, gives us a gloriously eerie flythrough of the Spencer Mansion from its claustrophobic halls, art gallery, the guest house to the secret laboratory. If Capcom does decide to give us another remake, perhaps this fan remake might give us the best indication of how it might look.
