The fangames and romhacks event hosted by Kaze Emanuar held it's yearly outing this weekend, on July 27th, 2024.
Kaze Emanuar, one of the most well-known and popular Super Mario 64 romhackers in the community, begun holding its own E3-like event, but for fangames and romhacks, all the way back in 2019. Due to its popularity, Kaze has been doing F3 in a yearly basis, focusing on fangames and romhacks that released either in the previous 12 months before the current F3 event, or will release in the upcoming 12 months after the current F3 event has aired.
With that said, on Saturday, July 27th, Kaze Emanuar released the announcements for the 2024 F3 event, with the following games being featured:
Pokemon games:
- The stream starts with a new Pokemon romhack, titled "Pokemon Pisces", a Pokemon Emerald romhack which offers a brand new experience, new moves, items and abilities in battle, a fully remapped Hoenn and brand-new Pokemon to go alongside the already existing ones. Coming late 2024
- Explore the world of Fanoth in a new fangame titled "Vinemon", with over 200 Vinemon's to encounter, with online battles and trades, new moves and songs, and a lot more.
- Paper Mario: TTYD Tower of Trails features a remodeled Hooktail Castle with a series of trials and challenges for the veteran Paper Mario players, with treasures being available to claim on each floor, being able to select which partner, items and moves to have, midboss enemies every 8th floor, configurable options, and a lot more. Coming late 2024.
- Mario & Luigi: Superstar Simulator seems to be a fangame recreation of the Mario & Luigi RPG battle style and engine of sorts, with dodgeable moves and characters, and a wide selection of available characters to choose from, showcasing Mario, Luigi, Wario, Waluigi, Sonic, Shadow and others. Coming in 2024.
- Shy Guy Surfing is a new fangame that focuses on a Shy Guy and its magic carpet (from Super Mario Bros. 2) surfing through a series of fast auto-scrolling stages with obstacles, enemies and bosses from the Mario franchise. Available right now in Itch.io
- The Super Mario Bros. Movie 2D fangame evokes a strong Java-like type of game (which were featured heavily during the early 2000s and 2010s in some websites). The game seems to be a 2D platforming recreation of the events from the movie, featuring Mario, Luigi, Peach, Toad and Bowser as playable characters. Coming 2025.
- Super Mario 127 is another 2D Mario fangame that integrates a wide variety of items and tools seen throughout the Mario franchise, both in 2D and 3D, like FLUDD and the Galaxy warping stars, to help the player traverse entirely new levels, with co-op play and a Maker-like level editor. Beta available right now, a full coding rewrite is currently in development.
- CTGP Deluxe is romhack/mod for Mario Kart 8 Deluxe which expands upon the available tracks in MK8 Deluxe, bringing forth tracks from previous outings of the Mario Kart franchise (SNES, GBA, 3DS, etc.), and even tracks based on other games like Diddy Kong Racing, Sonic Unleashed, and entirely new ones. Includes 14 new cups, with 56 new tracks. Available right now.
- Online Crash Team Racing is an updated build of the original CTR based on the current on-going PC decompilation project, which adds online play to the original game, with worldwide dedicated servers, widescreen gameplay, improved character stats, redesigned UI, 60 fps and a ton more quality of life features. Available now in online-ctr.com
- Mario Kart: Double Dash Plus is a romhack/mod for the original Mario Kart: Double Dash which implementes 64 new tracks, 24 new battle tracks, 200cc and 4 player Grand Prix. Available right now.
- Super Mario 3D World: Ghostly Glow is a new romhack/mod for Super Mario 3D World which features a lot of spooky and eerie styled stages and encounters in the 3D World engine. Releases this Halloween.
- Yet another Super Mario 3D World mod, showcasing new levels and challenging obstacles. However, this one doesn't seem to have been properly named, as the featured video only showcases the characters going through different levels, with no name dropped at any point during its showcase. After some research, this mod was found, it's called "Super Mario Moonlight". Coming Summer 2024.
- Bowser's Fury Online is a mod of Super Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury for the Nintendo Switch which adds online multiplayer to the Bowser's Fury portion of the game, bringing in all of the playable characters from Super Mario 3D World into the Switch-exclusive expansion. Coming August 3rd, 2024.
- PCDX is a Perfect Dark mod (most likely based on the PC decompilation project) which implements a classic mode, clone invasion mode, a system to mix and match perfect buddies, and a new buddy named Randi. The mod is available right now on developer's Meowsy64's GitHub repository.
- Donkey Kong '94 DX is a new colorization romhack made by renowed romhacker Marc Max, which aims to bring a full-on colorization to the entirety of the original Donkey Kong '94 for Game Boy. Works on full hardware, and will feature some improvements over the original. Release date isn't known yet.
- Mario Kart Wii Awesome Edition is a joke mod featuring over 1300 texture edits, over 100 SFX and music edits, and menu and model edits as well. Some custom meme items have been added as well. Available now on Gamebanana.
- Bupcraft mod is a complete meme and joke overhaul of New Super Mario Bros. Wii which features a whole slew of textures, sounds, music, models and just overall assets from many different franchises to create a Frankenstein of a mod made just for the hell of it. Available now on Gamebanana.
- Both Super Mario Gravity and Super Mario Orbit are brand new mods for Super Mario Galaxy featuring brand new stages, levels and stars and much more. A demo is currently available for Super Mario Gravity, while Super Mario Orbit will release on May of 2025.
- Luigi's Quest is a mod for New Super Mario Bros. Wii focused solely on Luigi going through a set of different levels based on 8 different climates, to fight off the 8 Koopalings in this brand new adventure. Available now.
- Hat Kid Steals The Declaration of Independence 3: King Slayer is a mod for A Hat in Time with a brand new combat system inspired by games like Devil May Cry, with an original story that continues the "Steals The Declaration of Independence" story from previous mods. Features 3 playable characters, each with unique movesets, and 4 new bosses.
- The Patchmaker's Workshop is a new romhack based on Super Mario 64 which features a whole set of new locales for Mario, as well as an intriguing new story, and a bunch of new "patch" abilities for Mario to use. Coming January 2025.
- SM64 Shining Stars 4: Another Dimensional Incident is showcased in a very brief portion (around 19 seconds) that sees Mario going through some platforms in an icy level, before falling down into a pit.
- Bowser's Dank Rave Infinite seems to be a meme/joke romhack, which sees Mario going into the infamous Backrooms, with some strong language thrown around and some Among Us-like enemies. Coming eventually.
- Mario in the Multiverse is a romhack focused on Multiverse travelling in its design. Mario visits levels, characters and enemies from different franchises and games, like Kirby, Spongebob, Splatoon, Crash Bandicoot, Pokemon, Doom (with Mario using a shotgun), and others. Release date unknown.
- Star Fur Day 64 is a joke mod for Star Fox 64, which aims to combine the quirky and mouthful language of Conker's Bad Fur Day into Star Fox's dialogues, with constant "ligma" jokes thrown around in the showcase.
- The Legend of Zelda Ocarina of Time: Crystal Clocks is a revamp of an Ocarina of Time mod, featuring with 11 puzzle rooms, 4 hidden hearts a brand new slingshot-like item, with the revamp featuring quality of life changes like unlimited ammo, bigger hitboxes, bugfixes, custom music, an actual ending room and more. Available now at Hylian Modding.
