When it comes to the Atelier series, combat and synthesis are core gameplay elements. Upcoming Atelier Yumia: The Alchemist of Memories & the Envisioned Land (first announced during August 2024's Nintendo Direct Partner Showcase) is no different, but both elements have been revamped to give the JRPG a new, fresh feel. Today, Gust and Koei Tecmo shared updated gameplay details alongside a new trailer.

In the game, alchemy became taboo following the cataclysm that destroyed the continent of Aladiss. Yumia Liessfeldt's journey begins when she and her friends decide to unravel the mysteries behind the cataclysm. Mysterious characters obsessed with alchemy will try to stop Yumia from discovering the truth, including Noble in a Black Cloak, a Monocular Werewolf, a Sheep-Eye Witch, and a Dragon-Winged Warrior.

The synthesizing system in Atelier Yumia: The Alchemist of Memories & the Envisioned Land manipulates mana to create new items. For the most powerful items, you have to master Resonance Synthesis by adding resonating ingredients to the "Alchemy Core" of the recipe. The ingredients selected will determine the strength of the resonance.

The revamped combat system combines real-time combat with intuitive gameplay. Each party member's available skills will depend on their distance from the enemy (close or ranged combat). Party members can be moved or swapped for other characters during the fight. A Friend Action combo can be unleashed under the right conditions. Similarly, meet other conditions to activate Mana Surge, providing exclusive actions. Every character has a unique special move to inflict damage.

While travelling, you can create bases for Yumia and company. Using the new Building feature, you can create and decorate your atelier by choosing from walls, floors, roofs, furniture, etc. Or, if you're like me, begin with a predefined base model that can be selected from the catalogue. Increasing the atelier's comfort level unlocks bonuses to develop the base or enhance the party's skills. If you can't be bothered to return while exploring, set up a camp where you can cook. Some characters can only be found at camps.

Developed by Gust and published by Koei Tecmo, Atelier Yumia: The Alchemist of Memories & the Envisioned Land will be released for PC via Steam, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, Xbox Series, and Xbox One on March 21, 2025. The game includes Japanese voice acting with English, French, German and Spanish texts.
