Originally launching on the PS2 in 2004 and since exploding in popularity in Japan with the portable PSP releases, and globally with the release of World, Monster Hunter stands as a one of Capcom's best-selling series. With much anticipation for the latest entry, Monster Hunter Wilds, launching early next year, fans have been somewhat blindsided by the unceremonious reveal of an entirely new and different title. And it's a mobile game.

Monster Hunter isn't new to mobile games, with the Pokemon Go-style Monster Hunter Now having seen more than 15 million downloads since it launched last year. Outlanders is something of a different beast however, promising to be a "traditional hunting experience" available on your phone. In the press release we've had an open world map confirmed, as well as gear and tool crafting, and up to four-player multiplayer. Also released was a short trailer showing ways to move around the world, with a paraglider, the now-staple of the open world genre, prominently featured. It should be noted that no combat was shown.

The game is to be developed by Capcom themselves alongside TiMi Studio Group, known for their work on Age of Empires Mobile, Call of Duty Mobile, and Pokemon Unite. Though no launch date has been stated, it has been confirmed that there will be a number of play tests prior to the game releasing. A Discord server has been setup to host discussions for the title, as well as share opportunities to sign up to the aforementioned play testing sessions.
