Skull Island: Rise of Kong may have taken the title as one of Xbox's worst games of 2023, but that isn't stopping cinema's most famous primate from returning for another video game outing. This time around, developer 7Levels is bringing Kong: Survivor Instinct to Xbox in 2024 - and it's not exactly what we were expecting.
This particular King Kong game is a sort of 2.5D platformer taking place in a destroyed city; set shortly after the events of the 2021 movie 'Godzilla vs. Kong'. Gone are the lush, jungle environments you typically associate with this titan of cinema - Kong: Survivor Instinct looks and sounds like a much grittier affair for the franchise.
"When giant monsters fight, no one's safe. Embark on a thrilling quest of survival in a city that's become a battleground for Titans. Use the lethal strength of Kong and other monsters to your own advantage in this official Monsterverse game set shortly after the events of Godzilla vs. Kong.
Kong: Survivor Instinct is a 2.5D action-adventure game that combines realistic platforming, challenging combat, and metroidvania-style exploration during a thrilling quest of survival worthy of the Monsterverse franchise."
Watching through that trailer a few times, again, this certainly has a bit of a different vibe - and we're looking forward to seeing how Survivor Instinct shapes up on Xbox. No offense to last year's Skull Island: Rise of Kong, but standards are pretty low right now after that 2023 King Kong release, so we're hoping this new title can take things up a notch.
Anyway, Kong: Survivor Instinct hits Xbox Series X|S in Fall 2024, so there's not too long to wait for our next King Kong adventure on Xbox. In the meantime, here are a few screenshots from the upcoming title:
