Grand Theft Auto 6 enthusiasts experienced disappointment following the recent invalidation of the widely-circulated moon theory that aimed to predict the release timing of the game's anticipated second trailer. Despite the theory having seemingly credible supporting evidence, it appears Rockstar Games isn't actually using moon phases to schedule GTA 6's promotional content.

Following the debut trailer for GTA 6 approximately one year ago, enthusiasts have been meticulously analyzing potential clues about Rockstar's next marketing move for this eagerly awaited crime-focused open-world title. From monitoring every Take-Two financial presentation throughout the year to studying marketing patterns of previous Rockstar releases like GTA 5 and Red Dead Redemption 2, GTA 6's committed community has explored every possibility to anticipate the second trailer's debut date. While Rockstar maintains official silence, one particular fan speculation gained significant traction.

In September 2023, Rockstar released a GTA Online promotional visual featuring a prominent Waning Gibbous moon in the background. The actual moon reached this phase on December 1, 2023, coinciding with Rockstar's announcement of GTA 6's initial trailer release date. Interestingly, Rockstar published another GTA Online promotional image displaying a Waning Gibbous moon in early November 2024, sparking speculation about a possible GTA 6 trailer 2 announcement.

GTA 6 Community's Lunar Theory Proves Unsuccessful

With the moon entering its Waning Gibbous phase, fans speculated that Rockstar would reveal or launch the second GTA 6 trailer on November 22, 2024, marking the phase's conclusion. However, this date has passed the typical 9 AM ET announcement window for Rockstar and Take-Two without any updates regarding GTA 6's next trailer. Predictably, the GTA 6 community expresses disappointment over their optimistic lunar theory's failure, leaving them uncertain about Trailer 2's timeline.

Though the lack of GTA 6 updates may frustrate many followers, both Rockstar and Take-Two have consistently reinforced their commitment to the game's fall 2025 launch window throughout this year. This steadfast position suggests that Rockstar likely has additional GTA 6 marketing content planned for the near future. Therefore, despite the moon theory's inaccuracy, fans should remain optimistic about GTA 6's upcoming trailer.
