There's five new cars to choose from in this month's update, and with four already allocated to other events in World Circuits and the Nations Cup Exhibition season it only seems reasonable for the odd-one out to be the subject of the Time Trial.
Accordingly you'll find yourself in the Porsche Mission X Concept, a vehicle created by Porsche to present to itself as a 75th anniversary present last year and which is set to preview a new hypercar from the brand in 2025.
Marrying current design language — like we see in the 963 hypercar and Vision GT — with nods to the 917K, the all-electric Mission X is designed to be the fastest road car around the Nurburgring Nordschleife, if it were a real thing.
While quiet on what the motor configuration of the Mission X is, Porsche does state that it has a 1:1 ratio of metric horsepower to weight — 1PS per kg — though it looks like the game car has 1,360PS (1,341hp, or 1MW) pushing 1.6 tonnes about.
Either way, you'll need to have the car equipped with Racing Soft tires for this time attack on the Red Bull Ring, and given the enormous speed the Mission X reaches that's going to be for braking more than anything else. It has no trouble spinning the wheels up past 130mph either.
The current world record for this event is getting very close to a flat 1:21, so while the gold time is presently a 1:23.5 we're not expecting that to last for long. Something in the 1:22s, and probably the mid-1:22s will likely be required if you want the top, 2m credit reward.
In order to access the Online Time Trials, you'll need to unlock Sport Mode, by completing Menu Book 9 ("Championship: Tokyo Highway Parade") in the GT Cafe single player hub. As it's just you against the clock and not a direct, head-to-head multiplayer event, PlayStation Plus is not required.
You'll usually need to be within 3% of the fastest time globally once the event finishes in order to secure "gold" status and a 2m credit bonus prize. There's smaller prizes of one million for being within 5%, and 250,000cr for bronze at 10% off.
The events update every Thursday, with each individual challenge usually remaining available for two weeks and the oldest of the two events being replaced each week. You can look forward to the next new Time Trial arriving at 0700 UTC on Thursday November 28.
