After a little jiggling of timings (and cars, now fixed) caused by the physics overhaul implemented in the 1.49 update, the Time Trials have returned to their regular schedule: two events running for two weeks each, offset by a week and with the oldest replaced each Thursday.
This week's new challenge brings one of the more unusual cars in the game to the fore — and one which was a pre-order bonus for the game, all the way back in early 2022 — in the shape of the Porsche 917 Living Legend.
The car was a concept model created by Porsche in 2013 to celebrate the classic 917 race car and, specifically, the 917K driven to victory by Richard Attwood and Hans Herrmann in 1970. It even, in its original colors, has the same, Austrian flag-inspired Porsche Salzburg livery.
Turned into a drivable vehicle for Gran Turismo 7, the 917LL sports almost 1,000hp from a twin-turbocharged V8, so it'll be right at home on High Speed Ring in this week's new Time Trial challenge.
You'll need to have the car on Racing Hard tires for the event, and you're going to need some brave pills as it hits close to 230mph on the severely banked track. The world record for the event is getting pretty close to the flat minute mark, currently requiring a low-1:02 for the Gold mark, but you just know the top players will be aiming to break into the 59-second area. A mid-1:01 should be your aim then.
Additionally there's another week on the special event Time Trial, which sees players taking on a challenge that will be part of the Manufacturers Cup race at this weekend's GT World Series Round 2 in Prague.
You can pick any of the 12 Gr.3 cars allowed (representing the finalist brands) for this event at a wet Red Bull Ring, and the records have been tumbling. Currently the top time is a 1:35.8, so you're going to need a mid-1:38 for gold. However it's worth noting that there's a much easier bronze target — at +20% instead of the usual +10% — and double the normal prize money at this level if you want a quick 500,000cr.
Don't forget also that there's also two more Time Trials running through to September as part of the Honda Racing eMS series. Although technically age-gated, you can run both and they also offer the usual credit rewards — so there's 10m credits available in TT events right now!
In order to access the Online Time Trials, you'll need to unlock Sport Mode, by completing Menu Book 9 ("Championship: Tokyo Highway Parade") in the GT Cafe single player hub. As it's just you against the clock and not a direct, head-to-head multiplayer event, PlayStation Plus is not required.
You'll usually need to be within 3% of the fastest time globally once the event finishes in order to secure "gold" status and a 2m credit bonus prize. There's smaller prizes of one million for being within 5%, and 250,000cr for bronze at 10% off.
The events update every Thursday, with each individual challenge usually remaining available for two weeks and the oldest of the two events being replaced each week. You can look forward to the next new Time Trial arriving at 0700 UTC on Thursday August 15.
