To wrap up the original classic trilogy of Resident Evil titles, GOG has announced today the release date for the last remaining title to be available to complete the trilogy, with the title in question being the original "Resident Evil 3: Nemesis" (1999).
The final release date for Resident Evil 3: Nemesis (1999) on GOG is set to September 25th, 2024, with the announcement by GOG being made on the exact anniversary of the release date of the original back in 1999. As with the previous two re-releases of Resident Evil 1 and Resident Evil 2 on GOG, the third entry will also feature a number of Quality of Life improvements, as well as other modifications being made to the original game for modern systems.
The new re-release will include following features:
- Full compatibility with Windows 10 and Windows 11.
- 6 localizations of the game included (English, German, French, Italian, Spanish, Japanese).
- Mercenaries Mode included.
- Improved DirectX game renderer.
- New rendering options (Windowed Mode, Vertical Synchronization Control, Gamma Correction, Integer Scaling and more).
- Improved graphics engine initialization and restart.
- Improved video subtitles.
- Improved options dialog.
- Issue-less task switching.
- Improved mouse cursor visibility.
- Full support for modern controllers (Sony DualSense, Sony DualShock4, Microsoft Xbox Series, Microsoft Xbox One, Microsoft Xbox 360, Nintendo Switch, Logitech F series and many more) with optimal button binding regardless of the hardware and wireless mode.
The RE1 re-release on GOG was fully compatible with the Classic Rebirth patch made by Gemini, but the RE2 re-release wasn't that lucky, given how it wasn't based on the SourceNext version, although it was still possible to play RE2 Classic Rebirth with the Seamless HD Project with some tweaks made to the GOG version. While it's most likely that the new RE3 re-release will follow suit the RE2 re-release and won't be based on the SourceNext version, it could perhaps be made playable with its RE3 Classic Rebirth with some tweaks to the files once the game releases in a couple of days.
