Yoshida added that Final Fantasy 14 Mobile is currently being developed by Lightspeed Studios, who recently opened a branch in Japan with former Capcom game director Hideaki Itsuno leading the way. Lightspeed Studios is a subsidiary of Tencent, and is known for the development of titles like PUBG Mobile and the upcoming Last Sentinel. However, Square Enix confirmed that Final Fantasy 14 Mobile is an officially licensed project, and the company would supervise Lightspeed Studios during and after its development.
Although no release date for Final Fantasy 14 Mobile was given, Square Enix said that some fans will have a chance to test out the game before release. According to the Final Fantasy 14 Mobile website, players in China will be able to sign up for multiple play tests before the game's global launch. Pre-registrations for Final Fantasy 14 Mobile are now available on the game's website. As for what fans can expect when Final Fantasy 14 mobile is released, Yoshida said that Final Fantasy 14's combat classes and Jobs from A Realm Reborn, along with crafters and gatherers, would be playable. A short trailer of Final Fantasy 14 Mobile development footage was shared by Yoshida. Set to a medley by Final Fantasy 14 composer Masayoshi Soken, scenes from the cities of Gridania, Limsa Lominsa, and Ul'dah were shown off, along with Jobs such as the Paladin, White Mage, and Summoner.
Square Enix Reveals Final Fantasy 14 Mobile
Along with PVE and PVP combat, Final Fantasy 14 Mobile will have activities like the Fashion Report and GATEs in the Manderville Gold Saucer. However, Jobs and races from expansions like Heavensward and Stormblood will not be included at first. At the time of writing, it is not clear what versions of iOS or Android will run Final Fantasy 14 Mobile, or what the subscription or monetization models of the game will be.
The reveal of Final Fantasy 14 Mobile came just one week after the Crossroads update for Dawntrail was launched. As development continues, it remains to be seen when Final Fantasy 14 Mobile will go live.
