The first public demo for the fanmade port of Splatterhouse to the Sega Mega Drive/Genesis has been released. Here are the key details:

1. Release Date: October 31, 2024 (Halloween)
2. Developer: Monster Bath Games
3. Demo Content: First two levels from the original arcade game
4. Compatibility:
- Playable on the BlastEm emulator
- Compatible with SEGA Genesis/Mega Drive via Everdrive or similar devices
- Optimized for 60Hz NTSC systems (PAL users may experience some issues)
5. Availability: Free download from itch.io

The port is being developed using @earok's Scorpion Engine, with music by YM2612 chiptune artist @laurent_crouzet. The developer plans to continue working on the project, aiming to complete one section per week until the entire game is finished.

This is a fan port of Splatterhouse I've been working on to learn the ropes of Sega Megadrive/Genesis development.

This game will be made free to play on release. For now please enjoy the demo.

Please note that this is a ***WORK IN PROGRESS*** and that what is in this demo is not necessarily the final versions of art, color, sound or music. There may be bugs as well. They will be fixed. There is tuning to be done - it will be done.

***We will not be adding red blood to the game, we will not be adding the cutting room floor sprites/objects/enemies that were not in the final game. We will make adjustments to some things to make it look better with the genesis color palette and will do a few things to show off the genesis abilities over the original game (parallax scrolling etc). ***

The demo for this fanmade port "Mega Splatterhouse" is now available on Itch.io for anyone interested in trying it out.

This fanmade port is significant because the original Splatterhouse never received an official Mega Drive/Genesis release, despite its sequels being available on the platform. The demo has been well-received, with praise for its color palette and remixed music.
