A new Dragon's Dogma 2 datamine has supposedly unearthed some interesting details regarding potential plans for the open world RPG. While these tidbits don't necessarily mean that significant updates are incoming, they do suggest that the developer was at least considering one or two eyebrow-raising additions.

The headline act here is the mention of multiplayer. Translating from Japanese, the file text refers to something called 'Tower of the New Moon' as a specific multiplayer mode.

Of course, the original Dragon's Dogma and its sequel both make use of their trademark Pawn system in place of co-op. Players can hire the AI-driven companions of other players, and they'll learn specific combat tactics and quest solutions as they adventure. As such, this newly uncovered nod towards multiplayer comes as a genuine surprise.

But there's a catch: all of this could just be referring to content that was cut from Dragon's Dogma 2 during development. Datamines like this can be difficult to read into, simply because no one outside of the development team truly knows the project's past or current trajectory.

Dragon's Dogma 2 sold like hot cakes when it released earlier this year, prompting Capcom to name it as a "key brand" of the publisher's business. Since then, fans have been waiting on a DLC announcement, but it's yet to arrive, despite waves of DLC rumours doing the rounds over the last few months.

The real question, then, is how much smoke can there be without any fire? Again, fans have been combing through the game's files for most of the year at this point, and numerous updates have hinted at the eventual arrival of something bigger.

But with Monster Hunter Wilds fast approaching, it's hard to imagine a world where Capcom will push another beefy Dragon's Dogma 2 marketing campaign anytime soon. Here's hoping that 2025 is the year...
