It's been quite the saga across the summer, with players largely left in the dark about the fate of one of the big three brands of sim racing wheels and equipment. That finally looks to be over now, and probably with the preferred outcome for many racing gamers.
Corsair will keep the Fanatec branding — much as it has with PC peripheral brand Elgato and gamepad manufacturer SCUF Gaming — as the name continues on not just current products but those being developed for the future too.
According to Andy Paul, the CEO of Fanatec's new owners Corsair, the Fanatec brand will see a commitment to continue developing product lines as well as expanding them to new avenues. Customer service is also a priority for Corsair.
That leads into some good news for owners of current Fanatec peripherals too as Corsair will continue to provide full support, including warranties and future software updates, for these items.
Notably, Corsair has also revealed it plans to improve the availability of Fanatec products worldwide, through its own channels. Up until now you've only been able to purchase through Fanatec's website — which has been improving in recent years — but Corsair has many more avenues available to it including an Amazon Store. That should make Prime Day a dose more interesting/expensive for gamers.
While Corsair is also keeping the Fanatec operation headquartered in Landshut, Germany, it still remains to be seen how much of the brand's existing sponsorship commitments will be retained.
We are, for example, yet to see the Gran Turismo DD Extreme wheel make its debut in the Gran Turismo World Series — despite it being scheduled for Prague last month. Fanatec's title sponsorship of the real-world GT World Challenge remains intact for 2025 as far as we know, although the groundbreaking Fanatec Esports GT Pro Series was not part of the 2024 championship.
