Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 may be reviving the grapple gun, as some keen-eyed fans of the series have spotted it in a recent trailer for the upcoming FPS. While there doesn't seem to be any indication of how it will be used in Call of Duty: Black Ops 6, fans are already debating over whether it will be a positive addition to the game.

While Call of Duty games started using grappling hooks back in 2012 with Black Ops 2, the more modern grapple gun has been featured in Black Ops Cold War and Call of Duty: Mobile following its debut in Black Ops 4. The Special Issue Equipment allowed players much more mobility, as they could use the tool to grab onto far-away surfaces and zip quickly across battlefields.

An object that closely resembles the grapple gun was featured for a fraction of a second during a trailer for Black Ops 6 revealed during the Xbox Showcase on June 9, where it flashed across the screen as just one in a series of rapid-fire images, as pointed out on Reddit by user Sammy-Jz. The trailer does not show the piece of equipment being used, but rather, simply being held by a character in a first-person view, leaving players to wonder just what its purpose will be in the game and in which modes it will be useable in.

Call of Duty Fans Are Divided Over the Grapple Gun

So far, reactions to the grapple gun's appearance in the Black Ops 6 Gameplay Reveal Trailer have been generally positive, as a lot of Black Ops 4 players have fond memories of the times the tool saved them in the game, particularly in Blackout mode. However, there are those who would be much less excited to see the grapple gun reinstated in Black Ops 6, with some complaining that the quick escapes it allows unfairly gives too much advantage to less skilled players who would rather run than fight a superior opponent. For those who enjoy boots on the ground gameplay, any kind of flashy movement option like this is a red flag. Others are holding out hope that the grapple gun will see limited use, such as only appearing as a one-off tool during the game's story.

As it stands, there is no way of telling at this point whether the grapple gun will see any use in competitive multiplayer, or if it will be limited to just solo play. Whichever the case, Black Ops 6 has clear differences from other Black Ops games, from the modernized engine to several new game features, so it should provide a fresh experience even for longtime fans of the series when it launches on October 25.
