The Beetlejuice Beetlejuice trailer reveals Michael Keaton's bio-exorcist is back for revenge 36 years later. The highly anticipated sequel sees Tim Burton returning as director alongside Keaton as the titular character, with a script from Wednesday writers Alfred Gough and Miles Millar. The upcoming Beetlejuice Beetlejuice also sees returning cast members Winona Ryder and Catherine O'Hara as Lydia and Delia Deetz alongside new cast members Jenna Ortega as Astrid Deetz, Justin Theroux, Monica Bellucci, and Willem Dafoe.

Now, Warner Bros. Pictures has released the official trailer for Beetlejuice Beetlejuice. Watch it below:

The trailer follows the three generations of the Deetz family who, following a sudden death in the family, return home to Winter River. Lydia's daughter, Astrid, stumbles upon the mysterious model town in the attic, accidentally opens a portal to the afterlife, and summons the mischievous spirit, Beetlejuice, to wreak havoc once more.

Story, Cast & More

Just like the first Beetlejuice Beetlejuice trailer, the second is set to a mournful rendition of "Day-O (The Banana Boat Song)" by Harry Belafonte, which was famously used in the first film during the dinner scene. However, unlike the first, the second trailer reveals that Charles Deetz (Jeffrey Jones) is the one who has passed away, as Astrid says, "I can't believe grandpa is dead." It was assumed that the Deetz family patriarch would be the one who dies in the sequel, considering the actor is now a registered sex offender, and he wasn't among the returning cast members.

The trailer also reveals how, despite Lydia's warnings, her rebellious teenage daughter Astrid accidentally summons Beetlejuice by saying his name three times, unaware of the power it holds, and unintentionally invites him to wreak havoc once again. There are also first looks at the new Beetlejuice Beetlejuice cast members, including Bellucci as Beetlejuice's zombified wife. Dafoe plays a ghost detective named Wolf Jackson who, in a past life, was a B-movie action star, but in the trailer, is looking for Beetlejuice. Theroux plays a character named Rory, though further details about him remain unclear.

The trailer showcases returns to the various realms from the first film, including the afterlife waiting room and the Netherworld, inhabited by the iconic sandworms. Just like the first film, it appears the sequel relied heavily on practical effects in lieu of CGI, helping to create Burton's distinct gothic aesthetic. The whimsical and humorous tone is also still present in the Beetlejuice Beetlejuice trailer, all of which suggest that, 36 years later, the sequel should be able to recapture the original's unique charm and enduring popularity.
