Tekken 3 is a fighting game that is the third installment in the Tekken series. In 1997, it was released for arcades and later ported to the PlayStation in 1998. The arcade version was also included in Tekken 5's Arcade History mode for the PlayStation 2 in 2005. Additionally, it was re-released as part of Sony's PlayStation Classic.
Tekken 3 introduced a mostly new roster of characters, which included now-staple characters such as Jin Kazama, Ling Xiaoyu, Bryan Fury, Eddy Gordo, Hwoarang, Forest Law, and Julia Chang, with a total of twenty-three characters. The home version of the game also included a new beat 'em up mode called Tekken Force and a bonus Tekken Ball mode.
The game was a huge success for both arcades and consoles, selling 35,000 arcade units and over 8 million PlayStation copies worldwide. Tekken 3 is recognized as the fifth best-selling PlayStation game to date. Since its release, Tekken 3 has been highly regarded as one of the greatest video games of all time. It was followed by Tekken Tag Tournament in 1999, and the direct sequel, Tekken 4, was released in 2001.
