Pokémon Platinum Version is an exciting game that belongs to the fourth generation of core series titles. It's a standalone version of Pokémon Diamond and Pearl, which means it can be played on its own. The game was first leaked on May 11, 2008, when a low-resolution cell-phone picture of an upcoming issue of CoroCoro magazine was shared on the internet. Later on, the magazine was officially released, and the game was confirmed by Nintendo on May 15.
Pokémon Platinum Version was first released in Japan on September 13, 2008, followed by North America on March 22, 2009, Australia on May 14, 2009, Europe on May 22, 2009, and Korea on July 2, 2009. Like previous third versions, the region and starting area remain the same as in previously released paired versions. In Platinum, the player starts their journey from Twinleaf Town and travels across all of Sinnoh.
The game's plot revolves around the player's journey to become the Champion of Sinnoh. The player begins the game by watching a newscast about Professor Rowan's return to Sinnoh. Their best friend then runs in, and the two head for Route 201 to get a Pokémon from Professor Rowan. However, Rowan sees them and reprimands them for endangering themselves. His assistant then comes along, and Rowan lets the player and their friend each choose among a Turtwig, Chimchar, or Piplup.
During the game, the player encounters many conflicts with the evil Team Galactic and its leader, Cyrus. When the power of Dialga and Palkia summoned by Cyrus begins to overwhelm Sinnoh, Uxie, Mesprit, and Azelf appear, and Giratina drags Cyrus down into the Distortion World. After facing off against Cyrus, the player is forced into a battle with Giratina. After winning the battle, the player faces the Elite Four and Cynthia, the reigning champion of the region.
After defeating Cynthia, there are further activities to pursue in-game. These mainly concern the capture of previously unavailable Pokémon, extra features such as the Poké Radar, exploration of previously inaccessible places, and the perfection of battle skills in the Battle Tower. At the Survival Zone, the player helps Looker finish off Team Galactic by arresting Charon.
