Disney's Aladdin is an action-platformer based on the 1992 animated film and developed by Virgin Games and Disney Software. The game was released by Sega for the Genesis on November 11, 1993 and became the third best-selling game on the console with four million copies sold. It features a number of differences from the other Aladdin game released in the same month by Capcom for the Super Nintendo, most notably the inclusion of a sword. Aladdin can move, crouch, look upward, jump, and climb ropes, clotheslines and other overhead handholds. Weapons of choice are a scimitar for short-range, slashing attacks and apples that can be pelted long-range. Along the way, Aladdin can collect gems to be traded for extra lives, as well as "wishes", which allow the player to continue the game from the current level upon death, instead of having to start from the beginning. Bonus levels include playing as Aladdin's pet monkey, Abu, and a luck-based minigame called "Genie's Bonus Machine". Just like the movie, the game was critically acclaimed upon release. Electronic Gaming Monthly awarded it Best Genesis Game of 1993 and UK magazine Mega placed it at #12 in their Top Mega Drive Games of All-Time.
