Heihachi Mishima, a former fighting champion and current corrupt tycoon, is seeking to realize his dream of becoming immortal. In order for him to accomplish this goal, he requires the Devil gene, which is held by both his son Kazuya, whose body is currently being held in the laboratories of the G Corporation, and his grandson Jin. However, the revived Kazuya is able to take down Heihachi's Tekken Force and win the match. In the meantime, Jin decides to live in seclusion for himself. In an effort to entice Kazuya and Jin to leave, Heihachi declares the fourth installment of the King of the Iron Fist tournament, with the ultimate reward being full ownership of his business.
Twenty different playable characters are available in Tekken 4, four of them are brand new. With the addition of walls, terrain impacts, position adjustments, and improved side-stepping, players are given access to a wider variety of combat methods. There are a total of nine different game modes, one of which is a new Training mode, in addition to the Tekken Force game.
